T-9-151.

Masady passed with themy Co. Office. 14 Nov. W. Robinson has been appointed to the Office by Governor, till a salary of £3000 payable out of the funds of the Colony, and that Colonel Caine's services as Lt. Governor being deserving of recognition, it is considered necessary on the abolition of this office, after seven years' service in the Colony, that he be granted a pension.

The Colony saves £2250 for the year in which the abolition takes place.

The Colony saves it, but on the other hand it will have to bear the salary of the Governor, which it had not before, unless the pension to be accorded to Caine is taken into account.

The papers annexed lead us to suppose the Union to £800 was not waited. If so, perhaps we might treat it. M. Merivale

Forward to the Treasury explanation, that the Governor finds it difficult to discharge the duties of Superintendent of Trade, for which he was not paid from Imperial funds - it is unnecessary to have a Lt. Governor (Colonel Caine); that the duty is one which falls on the Governor, and in cases with 7123, 24.
